The focus in this program is on reaching vision 2030 of making the Nordics the most sustainable and integrated region in the world. 2030 is just around the corner and focus in the program is therefore on innovative solutions that can accelerate the green transition as quickly as possible.
The program will support initiatives to strengthen companies’ competitiveness and knowledge, provide Nordic governments with input for policy development and implement pilot and demonstration projects that can be rapidly introduced to the market.
We are working towards this program mission through three innovation areas:
Using new solutions
The innovation area aims to promote sustainability and economic resilience in high-emission sectors. Through circular principles, digital innovation, data sharing, and sustainable business models, the initiative will enhance competitiveness and reduce the Nordic footprint. The goal is to strengthen self-sufficiency and contribute to the green transition. The solutions include:
- Support for existing businesses in high-emission sectors to adopt green and digital solutions
- Further development of value chain collaboration in the Nordic region
Commercialization and market introduction
By positioning the Nordic region as an attractive early market, we want to support emerging businesses and the implementation of new green solutions and technologies. It facilitates collaboration between the public and private sectors, including:
- Development of test arenas for market-ready solutions
- Positioning the Nordic region as an early market for green and digital technology
- Strengthening the commercialization capacity in the Nordic region
Accelerate sustainable circular economy, bioeconomy and resource management
Circular and bio-based solutions reduce waste, improve sustainability, and maximize resource efficiency. Sustainable value chains for critical materials strengthen the Nordic region’s self-sufficiency and competitiveness, and support the green transition. This innovation area promotes system change through resource optimization and the use of circular business models. Examples include:
- Bioeconomy projects for better resource utilization and self-sufficiency
- Circular business models and development of the market for circular solutions, including collaboration on testing legislation that promotes a circular economy
- Reducing waste and increasing recycling where the Nordic region has a competitive advantage
