Through a Nordic value chain collaboration, the MOBI project partners will explore hands-on how ocean biomass can be transformed into fossil free elements for the building industry, contributing to the ultimate goal of transitioning the building industry from one of the largest emitters to a significant long-term carbon storage solution. The
project represents a focused case for testing the potential of a selected supply chain concept for better utilisation of marine biomaterials in new end use applications.
At the end of the project, MOBI will deliver two application prototypes for the built environment, including indicative technical characteristics of materials as well as a LCA analysis and a business modelling for scale up. MOBI’s objective is to estimate the potential of seaweed based raw materials as a low carbon, low land resource alternative for the building industry in Nordic countries and show promising pathways for scaling in the near future with partners throughout the value chain.
