Nordic Mycologic

Project 2025 Active

The collaboration between Interesting Times Gang, OBOS, and MycoMine focuses on repurposing mycelium biomass, a byproduct from bioremediation of polluted waste streams, into sustainable materials for products like acoustic panels and packaging. Interesting Times Gang brings expertise in circular design and ocean biomass projects, while OBOS provides industry connections and real-world testing environments. MycoMine contributes its innovative waste management process, generating the mycelium biomass used as feedstock.

Earlier prototypes of mycelium panels have been successfully tested at OBOS Living Lab in Oslo, though scaling production remains a challenge due to growing space. Nordic Mycologic aims to overcome this by leveraging MycoMine’s process to create valuable materials from what was previously a low-value byproduct.

In Step 1, the project will evaluate the suitability of this biomass for use in new products, explore combinations with other biomaterials like shell waste, and identify a new Nordic partner for potential scale-up in Step 2.
