Funding awarded for four projects that help change the way people and goods move

The purpose of the Nordic Smart Mobility and Connectivity call was to foster the establishment of Nordic innovation projects, new Nordic partnerships, value chains and/or business models that help speed up the transition to a sustainable future, where Nordic citizens benefit from innovative mobility and connectivity solutions.

This call for proposals covered two topics

  • Seamless, integrated and people-centric mobility, or
  • Sustainable, secure, energy-efficient and decarbonized mobility

The call also combined two of the Nordic Smart Mobility and Connectivity program’s action areas and built on two separate calls for project outlines launched in 2018

  • Quality of Life Through Nordic Smart Mobility and Connectivity
  • Clusters and Ecosystems as Drivers of Nordic Smart Mobility and Connectivity

Nordic Innovation received 12 applications and after careful consideration, with the help of extern evaluation panel consisting of experts from all the Nordic countries, four projects were approved for funding. A majority of the 15 funded stage 1 projects that were implemented in early 2019 applied for funding for the next stage.

"All the projects have the potential to create a lot of impact."

– Nina Egeli, Senior Innovation Adviser, Nordic Innovation

"What we were looking for at this stage, were strong Nordic consortia, Nordic added value, impact creation for society, the Nordic region and businesses and the sustainability of the projects after the funding has stopped. We wanted projects that could clearly contribute to changing the way people and goods move and speed up the transition to a more sustainable future of mobility”, says Nina Egeli, Senior Innovation Adviser from Nordic Innovation.

The four projects that will receive funding of up to NOK 4 million, represent a variation of transport modes, geography, types of partners and project activities.

"All the projects have the potential to create a lot of impact. We are talking about, amongst others, quality of life, sustainability, accessibility, as well as a huge potential for Nordic businesses to get on board with their innovations. When we combine the best of what the Nordic countries can deliver on mobility, the Nordic region and Nordic businesses can really make their mark and considerably strengthen their position at a global level", Egeli concludes.

The funded projects are:

The Connected Ship

Next Nordic Green Transport Wave - Large Vehicles

Nordic Mobility Innovation Platform

Nordic Network for Electric Aviation
