Nordic Innovation has co-funded the Nordic Digital Health & Medication Platform project, which will establish and operate a Nordic marketplace for accreditation and distribution service for digital health apps within the healthcare and the preventive care segment in the Nordic region.
The project, which is run by a strong Nordic consortia, aims to help the citizens access quality health apps through channels they can trust, increase the uptake of digital solutions for both treatment and preventive health, and boost the digital health industry through the access to a Nordic wide marketplace for accredited solutions.
The Nordic accreditation model will be based on international, national and if needed regional or local regulations for digital health apps.
Digital health solutions could potentially have a huge transformative benefit for our hard-pressed health systems.

A step towards preventive healthcare
Nordic Innovation Senior Innovation Adviser Þórður Reynisson explains that the project is well-aligned with Nordic Innovation's ambition to make the Nordic region the most sustainable and integrated health region in the world by 2030. A shift towards more preventive care will be an important step to ensure that our health systems will be sustainable.
"The Nordic Digital Health & Medication Platform will make it easier for citizens and healthcare personnel to find and use quality health apps for treatment processes, preventive health care and wellbeing. These kinds of digital solutions could potentially have a huge transformative benefit for our hard-pressed health systems", says Reynisson.
The project consortia have begun developing the technical platform for health app accreditation and establishing a first version of the Nordic accreditation criteria based on the current international baselines.
By the end of the year they will also build the business case for a sustainable operation for a Nordic wide service before starting to accredit digital health apps and solutions for the Nordic market and build a Nordic “master library” of approved health apps.
