"With this report, NEA provides decision-makers and regulators with information and recommendations on where we are, what to do next, and how to ensure success for electric aviation in the Nordics," says Nina Egeli, head of mobility and connectivity programs at Nordic Innovation. The report ‘Reinventing aviation in the Nordics’ report was launched at Flight Plan '24 – Green Light for Takeoff conference in Visby, Gotland, Sweden.
The report compiles a list, highlighting findings from the Policy Tour and the work NEA partners are doing to get electric and hybrid-electric aviation to take-off. This is a call to action to align industry and governmental actions in the Nordics.
A key recommendation is to establish a Nordic Working Group to share best practices, harmonize regulations, and coordinate infrastructure development and preparations for electric aviation implementation by the end of the decade.
The NEA ecosystem identified the obstacles that may prevent a technology transition, and turned them into recommendations:
• COLLABORATING on the requisite regulatory frameworks and permit processes to introduce electric aviation, while encouraging closer coordination among Nordic authorities.
• ADVOCATING COLLECTIVELY in global platforms such as the European Union and the International Civil Aviation Organization for a seamless and harmonized introduction of electric aviation.
• PROMOTING and ACCELERATING the establishment of commercial electric aviation in the Nordic countries, while supporting opportunities for our industries to become world leaders in technologies related to electric aviation.
NEA Vision Tool launched
NEAs project manager, Eirik Sandal, launched the NEA Vision Tool. It is a web-based simulation tool where all Nordic airports are plotted in on an interactive map and lets you simulate potential routes, markets andopportunities using available data. With this tool all available data is presented in an understandable format and provides a base for discussion and the opportunity to discover solutions.
The tool is aimed at aircraft manufacturers, operators, airport owners, politicians, regions and destinations and the public so that they can make qualified decisions based on available data.
In the future NEA Vision Tool will be upgraded with more features, one being the possibility to simulate policy changes and thus be a tool also for politician and other decision makers.
“I encourage everyone to start using the NEA Vision Tool, play with different sliders and filters, see how things change and discover the potential”, says Eirik Sandal.
