“We are now moving to the next phase in our ‘two-step call process’ and are looking for projects with a larger funding scope and longer time horizon. We hope to receive creative and solution-driven applications from across the Nordics that can help drive long-term competitiveness in the Nordic region while also speeding up the green transition,” says Sindre Bornstein, Managing Director of Nordic Innovation.

The project proposals should fall under one of the two programs:

Innovative solutions for 2030. The proposed projects should help speed up the green transition, demonstrating measurable effects by 2030. Possible outputs include new solutions, partnerships, strengthened value chains, or business models. Priority will be given to projects that contribute to faster commercialization of new solutions, green transition in sectors with a high impact on climate and environment, as well as to projects that demonstrate a high level of market readiness.

Resilience and competitiveness for 2050. We are looking for proposals to accelerate the transition to a more sustainable, integrated, resilient and competitive Nordic region, where strengthened collaboration, use of technology and data are essential drivers. This program has a longer time horizon and therefore projects may support solutions that mature through 2030 and beyond.

Background: A Green, Competitive and Resilient Nordic Region

The call for project proposals marks the second stage of a two-step funding model designed by Nordic Innovation to foster a broader Nordic innovation collaboration and to help develop the strategic guidelines for upcoming priorities.

In spring 2025 Nordic Innovation launched three new innovation programs for 2025-2027. As a part of the launch, a new call process was introduced to gather ideas and input for shaping two of three programs: Innovative Solutions for 2030 and Nordic Forward: Resilience and Competitiveness for 2050. The two-step call process has been used in previous programs, however, this call is distinguished by its extensive scope and focus on strategic development.

Focus of the program ‘Innovative Solutions for 2030’ is on reaching vision 2030 of making the Nordics the most sustainable and integrated region in the world. 2030 is just around the corner and focus in the program is therefore on innovative solutions that can accelerate the green transition as quickly as possible.

The program will support initiatives to strengthen companies’ competitiveness and knowledge, provide Nordic governments with input for policy development and implement pilot and demonstration projects that can be rapidly introduced to the market.

The program is built around three innovation areas:

  • Using new solutions
  • Commercialization and market introduction
  • Accelerate sustainable circular economy, bioeconomy and resource management

Focus of the program ‘Nordic Forward: Resilience and Competitiveness for 2050’ is on building robust cross-border value chains, fostering deeptech business ventures and enabling data-driven ecosystems. The aim is to strengthen the Nordic region’s long-term competitiveness and resilience through the application of new technologies, deep-tech and new collaboration structures.

The program will support ecosystems and value chain collaboration to solve global and Nordic societal challenges and achieve impact at a systemic level.

The program is built around the three innovation areas:

  • Critical technologies
  • Smart mobility and connectivity
  • Innovation triggers
