On Tuesday 29 October, Icelandic prime minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir presented the Icelandic presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers in 2019 at the 70th Session of the Nordic Council in Oslo.
Two days later, the Icelandic Minister for Nordic Cooperation, Mr. Sigurður Ingi Jóhannsson visited the Directors of Nordic Innovation, Nordic Energy Research and NordForsk.
Mr. Jóhannsson presented the programme for the Icelandic presidency and he was happy to hear that it aligens well with Nordic Innovation's programme areas.
I’m happy to see that the Icelandic Presidency is well-aligned with Nordic Innovation’s programs.
Mr. Sigurður Ingi Jóhannsson, Icelandic Minister for Nordic Cooperation
The Icelandic Presidency is based on the global Sustainable Development Goals and focuses on three themes:
- the young
- the sea
- sustainable tourism
Nordic Innovation sees youth as an important aspect across all our programme areas, while the sea is of special interest in both the Nordic Sustainable Business Transformation and the Nordic Smart Mobility and Connectivity programs. Nordic Innovaton has also initiated activities on sustainable tourism and are looking forward to developing this further together with Iceland.
“The Icelandic Presidency has done a thorough job. We are happy that you have made a Presidency Programme that incorporates the Nordic Co-operation Programme for Business and Innovation Policy, which makes it easier for us to implement it”, said Managing Director of Nordic Innovation, Svein Berg.
