Democracy on Tour: Let’s talk about AI, tourism, minerals and much more

Summer is around the corner, and while we are all looking forward to celebrating the long Nordic Summer nights, we are busy planning our participation at the Nordic Democracy Festivals. Under the theme ‘Democracy on Tour’ the Nordic Council of Ministers gathers Nordic institutions to showcase hot topics and new solutions from all corners of the Nordic collaboration.

This year you will be able to meet Nordic Innovation at Folkemødet, Almedalsveckan, Suomi Areena and Arendalsuka.

Folkemødet, 13-15 June

First stop on the Tour is Folkemødet in Denmark. Nordic Innovation organizes two events within AI and Tourism.

Over the next months the Nordic Ethical AI Expert Group is launching their five recommendations on how the Nordics can become a leading region within ethical and responsible use of AI. On Thursday 13 June, 16.00-16.45 the session ‘Etisk AI – hvordan kan de nordiske lande tage føringen will present the five new recommendations followed by a panel discussion with leading AI experts. The session will among other discuss how Nordic companies can turn ethical use of AI into a competitive advantage.

Ethical AI will also be on the agenda at Almedalsveckan, Suomi Arena and Arendalsuka.

AI is a hot topic these days and it will also be an important aspect of our second session at Folkemødet. Thursday 13 June, 17.00-17.45 the event ‘Turisme i Norden – bør vi anvende AI til at sikre vækst og bæredygtighed?will focus on AI as a tool for more sustainable tourism in the Nordics.

X-Nordic Travel Contest has worked on developing innovative solutions that can create a more sustainable and at the same time competitive Nordic tourism industry. The project leader Group Nao will present their results followed by a panel discussion with experts from Danish Industry, Wonderful Copenhagen and COWI. If we are lucky, we might meet an avatar on stage!

Almedalsveckan, 24-27 June

We are all in at Almedalsveckan this year! Besides ethical AI we will also discuss electric aviation and critical minerals.

On 25 June, 12.00-12.40 we turn the spotlight on electric aviation with the event Kommer elflyget få Sverige upp i luften igen?’. Our partners from the Nordic Network for Electric Aviation (NEA) have collected a panel of experts from the aviation industry including BRA, SAS and Heart Aerospace for a discussion about the Nordics position within electric aviation – how can we take the leadership?

Recycling of critical minerals is key to the green transition. However, what is needed for companies to be able to increase their recycling of critical and strategic raw materials? On 26 June, 16.00-16.30 the event ’Cirkulär ekonomi – lättere sagt än gjort?’ invites Erika Ingvald from Geological Survey of Sweden and Jonas Rudberg from the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation for a conversation about circularity of critical minerals. Lena Henriksson from Nordic Innovation will open the session and share insights on Nordic Innovation’s work within recycling and traceability of critical raw materials.

Other events: Etisk AI – vad skal gälla och hur kan Nordic ta tätpositionen?
When: 25 June, 17.00-17.45

Suomi Areena, 25-28 June

After a few years’ absence we are happy to announce that we are now back at Suomi Areena where we will continue our discussions on ethical AI on 27 June, 14.00-14.45.

Arendalsuka, 12-16 August

We are always present at Arendalsuka and this year is no exception! The Nordic tent offers a broad variety of sessions. Here is an overview of our events.

We kick of the week with a super interesting AI event: 'Etisk AI – hvordan kan de nordiske lande ta føringen?'. 13 August, 12.00-12.45. Artificial intelligence is here whether we like it or not. The question is how we should deal with it, and which rules should apply. Hear the expert group's recommendations and watch the panel debate.

First up 14 August, 09.00-09.45, is the event 'Hvordan får vi til den robuste, smarte og sammenkoplede transporten vi ønsker oss?'. Sharing the right data, in the right quantities and of high quality, is necessary, but this is both complicated and complex and does not happen by itself. Collaboration is needed to create change, and collaboration platforms that have room for many different types of actors are required to solve complex problems – not least when we take as our starting point that mobility should be cross-border.

Sharing of health data has been identified as a golden opportunity for innovation in the Nordic health care systems. On 14 August, 15.00-15.45 the event ‘Deling af din helsedata, vi må handle nu!’ invites politicians and experts from the health care sector to discuss what is needed to accelerate the sharing of health data in the Nordics - and what are the political actions on this?

On 14 August, 20.00-21.00 the event ‘Har vi en mobilitetsindustri i Norge om 10 år? invites venture capital actors, politicians, industry leaders and actors from the public sector to take part in a discussion about the transformation of the Norwegian mobility industry. It will be an active session aiming to identify concrete action points.

The event is organized in collaboration with ITS Norway and VIA – Næringsklyngen for Transportinfratruktur.

15 August, 13.30-14.15 we are ready for the event 'Hvordan kan nordiske myndigheter støtte virksomhetenes digitalisering?'. We take a closer look at h digitalization and ask how can authorities collaborate on solutions that work across Nordic borders, so that Nordic companies can best share data in an automated and secure way?

We look forward to meeting you on our Democracy Tour!
