Learning to grow in New York

Ten promising #NordicMade startups honed their pitch and learned about growing overseas in New York.

 

Monday 24 August, 10 promising Nordic startups got to work with experts in New York to develop their company. Through different workshops and meetings, they worked on improving their pitch and learned more about how to expand their business overseas.

The day started with a pitching workshop, where the startups got feedback on their pitches and insights into fundraising processes in USA. After the first workshop, the startups had a luncheon where they met investors, got to pitch some more and had lunch. 

 

After lunch, the day continued with a workshop on how to scale to new markets, where the startups got tips on how to expand to the east coast US market. Then, the day was finished with a Nordic meetup with keynotes from among others Peter Vesterbacka of Rovio, pitching, snacks and beers.

Promoting the Nordic startup scene


The fact that the Nordic capitals have the most billion dollar-valued companies compared to population after Silicon Valley and that 26 percent of all European exits the last five years have come from Nordic countries, have increased awareness and interest in the Nordic startup scene in USA and the rest of the world. 

 

The workshops and meetings were part of an initiative by Nordic Innovation and eleven of the most influential Nordic startup organisations to act on this interest, and promote Nordic collaboration and showcase the Nordic startup scene on the US east coast.

 

 

Launching #NordicMade


The initiative also involves a closing bell ceremony at Nasdaq and a Nordic showcase events where the startups and the startup organisations will meet investors and media to share some of the Nordic success stories.

 

The showcase event will also be used to launch the NordicMade hashtag, which was made through the collaboration of the Nordic startup community. The hashtag will be used highlight all the good startup stories from the Nordic region and tell it to the world.

 

The 10 startups invited along to New York was carefully selected by the startup organisations, with two startups from each country. The invited startups are:
