The Nordic countries are well-known globally for promoting gender equality in all parts of our societies. However, male actors still dominate the Nordic entrepreneurship ecosystem, both among founders and investors. This needs to change.

Together with the Innovation Norway, Nordic Innovation celebrates Nordic women entrepreneurs by co-hosting an evening event in New York where we present innovative and highly promising Nordic female entrepreneurs and the strong Nordic support system that exists for Nordic entrepreneurs in New York, like the Nordic Innovation House in New York

We want to focus on the Nordic model that promotes, supports and motivates gender equality in innovation and entrepreneurship, and showcase the strengths of Nordic solutions and technology.  We want to create attention around the Nordics, and how we together, actively work with entrepreneurship to secure value creation and growth for the industries of the future.

We want to inspire others and work together with them to promote women entrepreneurship around the world. Including women in the economic sphere will enhance value creation and growth globally.

Where: WeWork Bryant Park, 54 W 40th Street, New York

Time: 7 March 2018, 6:00–10:00 pm

Registration: The event is by invitation only.

During the event, Innovation Norway will hand out their annual Norwegian Female Entrepreneur of the Year award to one of the three Norwegian finalists that will be attending the event. The award will be presented by Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway.

In addition, the other Nordic national trade organizations and consulates in New York have each selected one highly promising female entrepreneur who will get to pitch to New York-based investors and influencers from the Nordic Innovation House in New York’s extensive network, as well as for Nordic and American press and media.

The Nordic entrepreneurs are:

Competence building program

In the days before the event, the Nordic women entrepreneurs will go through a short competence building program focusing on increasing their global growth and scaling skills, such as sales, marketing and branding. The program will consist of workshops and one-on-one meetings with selected experts and advisers based in New York.

The program is a partnership between the Nordic consulates and trade organizations in New York and Nordic Innovation.

Invest in Her

A more global approach on women entrepreneurship and women’s inclusion in the financial system will be taken on 8 March, when UN Women, SAP, the Nordic Council of Ministers and Innovation Norway bring together influencers to discuss how to “Invest in Her”, discussing and showcasing among other things approaches that enables financial inclusion and gender lenses investments.

The Nordic entrepreneurs will be present together with entrepreneurs from the south. This is a separate event, which you can read more about here.

The UN 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide a roadmap to change the course for a new, fairer, more sustainable world, including a central drive to achieve full equality of men and women by 2030. The achievement of this agenda will require transformative shifts, innovative solutions and new partnerships. A key element in this regard is to enhance – globally - women’s possibilities to create sustainable businesses with growth potential.

No-one can solve the challenge of economic empowerment among women alone. We have therefore invited partners to come along and join forces with us for a common effort on strengthening women entrepreneurs on the week of the International Women’s Day.

Working with Nordic women entrepreneurship is also perfectly aligned with the Nordic prime ministers’ initiative flagship project The Nordic Gender Effect at Work – and their efforts to advance and enrich the gender equality agenda internationally.
