By promoting Nordic smart mobility and connectivity solutions, Nordic Innovation aims to speed up the transition to a more sustainable and connected mobile future, where quality of life is a cross-cutting aspiration.

The Nordic Smart Mobility and Connectivity programme was launched by the Nordic ministers for business in May 2018 based on the Nordic Co-operation Programme for Business and Innovation Policy 2018-2021.It is one of Nordic Innovation’s three thematic priorities for the period 2018-21. A total of NOK 60 million has been allocated to the programme

What is Nordic smart mobility and connectivity?

Nordic smart mobility and connectivity is about the movement and/or connectivity of people, places (rural and urban), goods and services, assets, information and data. ‘Smart’ may refer to e.g. sustainability, security or digitalisation.

Nordic smart mobility and connectivity is also about business development, innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainable growth in this field.

Four action areas

The programme strategy of the Nordic Smart Mobility and Connectivity programme is made up of the following four concrete action areas:

1. Quality of Life Through Nordic Smart Mobility and Connectivity

In 2018, Nordic Innovation launched a call for project outlines within the field of Nordic smart mobility and connectivity and chose eight promising early stage projects for funding. Stage two of this call is now published (see below).

2. Clusters as Drivers of Nordic Smart Mobility and Connectivity

In 2018, Nordic Innovation has launched a call for project outlines for cluster cooperation projects within the field of Nordic smart mobility and connectivity and funded seven promising early stage projects.

Stage two of this call is now published.

3. Nordic Urban Mobility 2050

Nordic Innovation has published an invitation to tender for a foresight analysis/discussion starter to build a scenario for mobility in Nordic cities in 2050. Finnish service design agency Hellon won the tender and together we have developed the Nordic Urban Mobility 2050 Futures Games

4. Sea Meets Land

We will launch a 'Nordic Innovation Mobility Mission: Sea Meets Land' funding instrument at this year's Nor-Shipping 2019 conference 7 June.

To get input to the Mobility Mission from the actors in the market and generate future Nordic project ideas, Nordic Innovation will hold open workshops in Reykjavik, Turku and Gothenburg together with Nor-Shipping in the first part of 2019.
