More than 200 Nordic and international stakeholders have contributed to the whitepaper, which is set to be published in spring of 2019.

What sets Nordic sustainable healthcare apart from the rest of the world? That is one of many questions tackled in an upcoming whitepaper on sustainable healthcare in the Nordic region.

Sustainable healthcare involves everything from energy efficiency and waste water treatment in hospitals to supply chain management and human rights. The Nordic countries have a solid knowledge base and advanced technologies when it comes to sustainability and are among the best globally – and in many cases the best – in most areas within sustainable healthcare. Sustainable hospitals has been identified as a Nordic stronghold for companies working with health tech.

“The interest has been huge! We’ve had several international actors engaging in workshops, submitting ideas and asking for more information."

Daniel Eriksson, Founder/Project Manager, Nordic Center for Sustainable Healthcare

The solutions and knowledge developed in the Nordics have the potential to be transferred to other parts of the world, and the whitepaper will be a great asset for everyone working with exporting Nordic sustainable healthcare solutions.

“We want to promote some of the many excellent sustainable healthcare solutions with origin in the Nordic countries”, says Daniel Eriksson, founder and project manager at Nordic Center for Sustainable Healthcare (NCSH). NCSH is doing the actual work with writing the whitepaper, which is financed by Nordic Innovation through the Nordic Welfare Solutions programme.

A co-creation process

Nordic Center for Sustainable Healthcare started the work on the whitepaper back in April last year and have since held workshops in all the five Nordic countries to get input from people working with sustainable healthcare in a wide range of areas.

More than 200 stakeholders working with sustainable healthcare in the Nordics have contributed with innovations, cases and strongholds that should be included in the whitepaper. The work has also attracted attention from stakeholders abroad.

“The interest has been huge! Even before completion we’ve had several international actors engaging in workshops, submitting ideas and asking for more information”, Eriksson tells.

He hopes the whitepaper will be ready to be published in spring of 2019.

Supported by the Nordic prime ministers

The whitepaper is developed as part of the Nordic Welfare Solutions project run by Nordic Innovation. Nordic Welfare Solutions is one of six flagship projects that makes up the five Nordic prime ministers’ initiative Nordic Solutions to Global Challenges, which is coordinated by the Nordic Council of Ministers.

Nordic Welfare Solutions aims at showcasing and demonstrating Nordic welfare solutions to the global market. The whitepaper will be made available as a resource for everyone working with exporting Nordic sustainable healthcare solutions.

Whitepapers on Smart Digital Health and Assisted Living will be also be published later in 2019.
