Minimizing emerging trade barriers

The Nordic economies are open and relatively small, and have traditionally been dependent on trade.
  • Published 04/02/2011

Our region has a strong interest in the free exchange of goods and services to foreign markets. Consequently, Nordic Innovation promotes the establishment of international agreements, regulations and standards that contribute towards opening up markets for goods and services.

Removing trade barriers and to facilitate an open trading system has always been an important task on the Nordic agenda. The Nordic region is a part of EU´s internal market and the legislative Nordic cooperation has shifted from making harmonised laws, to cooperating on implementing EEA internal market directives. Different implementations of EU directives and regulations run the risk of creating new trade barriers. To work for increased coordination in the implementation of EU legislation is therefore a key element in Nordic Innovations vision of a Nordic region without trade barriers.
