The challenge

There is a major need of cost-effective renovation of buildings built during the years 1960-75 in a process that lead to lower energy consumption and better environment. Building and renovation of sustainable cities and communities with attractive living environments is a challenge and requires a holistic approach in urban planning based on resource management, good architecture and technical innovation. 

Refurbishment, and especially the need for improved energy efficiency including HVAC renovation, tend to push the limits of the economy of both housing companies and tenants and in less attractive areas even making a refurbishment impossible. The wood-based prefab industry is well established, but is mostly SMEs and doesn't have the resources to develop new innovative products andlarger business concepts.



The solution

The project wish to develop a concept for industrially pre-fabricated wood-based system for renovation and sustainable upgrading of buildings. This upgrading will be conducted in a cost-effective and high-quality retrofitting system that minimises occupant disturbance. The result will be a network of businesses developing and producing prefabricated retrofitting solutions.
