The Bylarm festival held in Oslo in the end of February was about much more than just music. In the pitchfest at Bylarm Interactive, startups from all the Nordic countries competed for an exiting trip to Boston and Silicon Valley thanks to a Nordic cooperation initiative.

The atmosphere was intense at Bylarm Interactive in Oslo 28 February, where the hottest Nordic tech startups presentet themselves at the Nordic Top 24 pitchfest. The day culminated in a grand finale where the six most favoured tech startups battled for glory.

After the impressive pitch final, the crowd voted for their favourites, and Norwegian startup Rendra ended up as the lucky winner. They were awarded The Tetzchner Entrepreneurship Award and a networking trip to Boston and Silicon Valley to meet investors.

– We will prove them wrong

– Now we have the opportunity to travel back to the States and prove to investors that they were wrong, said a very happy co-founder Marit Rødevand afterwards.

Two years ago, Rendra visited the States, but was dismissed as a student project by US investors.

– The past two years we have proven that Rendra O (ed.: their product) works, and that the construction sector can save a lot of time and money if they use it.

Exited about cross-border cooperation

Both Swedish, Finnish, Icelandic and Danish startups participated together with the Norwegians at the pitchfest. The diverse amount of participating startups is a result of a cross-border cooperation between Nordic startup hubs, called The Ping Pong Alliance, which is funded by Nordic Innovation.

– We are extremely excited about the Nordic Ping Pong Alliance. It gives us the opportunity to get our startups out to more potential investors, and vice versa as you can see here today, said Rolf Assev from StartupLab Oslo and organiser of the pitchfest.
