The Nordic Green Growth Research and Innovation Programme

The call is now closed

Nordic Innovation, NordForsk and Nordic Energy Research joined forces and launched a call for proposals on green growth to accelerate the transition towards a sustainable Nordic society.  Approximately 73 MNOK will be granted to the best Nordic innovation and research projects. The programme is now closed for applications.

Assessment process

After submission, the secretariat will assess whether the proposals meet the general eligibility criteria. Only proposals that meet the eligibility criteria will be forwarded to the external assessment panels for review and rating. Based on the rating, the Nordic added value and the overall strategic value of the proposals the Programme Committee will recommend projects for funding. This recommendation will then form the basis for the final funding decision, to be taken by the TRI Management Board and Nordic Innovation. The funding decision is expected to be made in mid-December. After the decision has been reached, the applicants will be notified by email.

Application deadline: 16 August 2016 at 10:00 CEST

The Nordic countries have committed themselves to ambitious climate goals towards 2050 in terms of developing energy efficient and low-carbon societies. To achieve these goals, we need extensive green transitions in all areas of the Nordic societies and economies. We need to promote green economic growth, sustainability and competitiveness both in the public and private sector.

The Nordic countries are home to excellent research and consistently rank among the best when it comes to innovation. This makes the region well-positioned to develop innovative solutions and policy advice to meet the opportunities and challenges of reaching the Nordic climate goals.

NordForsk, Nordic Innovation and Nordic Energy Research, the main financiers of cooperative research and innovation in the Nordic countries, have therefore together launched the Nordic Green Growth Research and Innovation Programme. The programme calls for the best Nordic innovation and research projects on green growth, with a total budget of 73 million NOK

The call is split in two modules:

  • Module 1: projects led by a research institution
  • Module 2: projects led by businesses or industries

The call focuses on the following thematic areas:

  • Societal changes and future scenarios with focus on sustainable regional development
  • Global competitiveness and catalysing investment and innovation in Nordic businesses to utilise the ongoing green shift

Overarching collaborative projects covering both research and innovation are encouraged.

The call offers unique opportunities for researchers and innovators across the Nordic countries to draw on each other’s competences and deliver innovative solutions and policy advice with more impact than what can be done on a national level.
