The Nordic project MINUT demonstrate the innovation potential for the Nordic industry using microtechnology. The project goals have been to stimulate collaboration, create synergies among Nordic microsystem technology (MST) performers, and accelerate the industrial take-up of MST in the Nordic countries..

Microtechnology for innovative Nordic products

Microsystems, or small, functional components, will be the key components in systems realizing “the instrumentation society” we are entering during the next 5-10 years. There are numerous possible applications for microsystems. As a breakthrough technology, allowing unparalleled synergy between previously unrelated fields such as biology and microelectronics, many new microsystems applications will emerge, expanding beyond those that are currently identified or known.

Nordic innovation based on Microsystems

  • Breakthrough technology: Numerous possible applications for Microsystems
  • Easy access between research centres, technology suppliers and companies = Large potential for synergy and strong industrial acceleration
  • Nordic MEMS – status and possibilities – Update 2005

The Nordic project, MINUT, has been carried out in 2004 and 2005 to demonstrate the innovation potential for the Nordic industry and create better synergy between national actors within all Nordic countries. The project goals have been to stimulate collaboration, create synergies among Nordic microsystem technology (MST) performers, and accelerate the industrial take-up of MST in the Nordic countries. The basic idea is that there is large potential and strong industrial acceleration when ease of access is established among research centres, technology suppliers, and companies across the borders of the Nordic countries. Establishment of a common Nordic competence area within MST therefore is vital for future innovation. From the Awareness phase up to the Feasibility projects run within this project it is shown that this type of initiative is really needed at the Nordic level and has to be further sustained.

The MINUT project 'in-brief'

  • Access to leading Nordic Microsystem competence within a MINUTe!
  • Nordic awarenss - how to make intelligent products?
  • Turbo projects - business opportunities for your company? Pre-studies partly finanzed by the project.
  • Feasibility studies - from ideas to prototype with support from a Nordic team
  • Four leading Nordic institutes working together, SINTEF, Imego, Delta and VTT
  • Co-financed by the Nordic Innovation Centre

The MINUT project was closed in December 2005. The final report from the project presents results and Nordic innovations based on microsystems. The project partners will cooperate also after the project, and continues the MINUT-support to companies. Please get in contact with one of the project partners for questions!

Project duration: 01.01.2004 - 31.12.2005
