Welcome to the Nordic Council of Ministers and Nordic Innovation workshop on how the Nordic countries can work more closely together to co-ordinate regulations and standards within "green construction".

Background - Why this workshop?
Green growth has become a key objective for many countries and regions. The idea is to cope with the major environmental, climate and energy challenges the world faces while maintaining positive economic growth. The global market for green solutions is set to take off, and the Nordic region has the potential to improve its market position.
There is much to be gained by the Nordic countries working more closely together to co-ordinate regulations and standards. It would allow green entrepreneurs, green energy suppliers and companies with energy-saving products to approach the region as a single entity, rather than several distinct, smaller markets. The Nordic region should furthermore lead the way in Europe on green regulations and standards.
The Nordic Prime Ministers have commissioned the Trade Ministers, in collaboration with the Energy and Housing Ministers, to identify the 4–5 most important areas within “green construction” in which regulations and standards would be suited for co-ordination at Nordic level.
As a follow up to this initiative, Nordic Innovation has commissioned a study with the aim of defining “green construction” areas, identifying national and European existing and future regulations and standards within these areas and proposing co-operation areas/initiatives in which a joint approach would be capable of generating Nordic synergies. The results of the study will be presented at the workshop and sent out to the workshop participants in advance.
Aims - What do we want to achieve?
The main aim of the workshop is to discuss and, if possible, agree on which 4-5 areas/initiatives that should be reported to the Nordic Trade Ministers and the Energy and Housing Ministers.
